edrendell.jpg Ed Rendell back in 1999 was critical of the Eagles draft pick of McNabb over Ricky Williams. I guess he’s ate those words many times over. McNabb is still here and have at least been to the Super Bowl and Ricky, well, lets just say that he’s got Mary Jane on his mind since testing positive back in April, a month before trying to get back into the league.

Now he is giving the Eagles and Andy Reid shit about their current draft pick in Kevin Kolb.

“It boggles the entire mind,” Rendell told Bloomberg Television when asked about the Eagles’ decision to use their top draft pick on University of Houston quarterback Kevin Kolb. “It was stunning to all of us.”

Rendell said the Eagles should have used their top draft choice on Southern Cal wide receiver Dwayne Jarrett, who was taken nine picks after Kolb by the Carolina Panthers.

“I think we are going to rue the day we didn’t pick him,” Rendell said.

I myself questioned why they would take a QB this high when they had needs everywhere else. No one is saying that they should be looking towards the future, but this year this high may not be the best for the team.

Kevin Kolb Donovan McNabb
From AP:Donovan McNabb had the same reaction most fans had when the Philadelphia Eagles selected quarterback Kevin Kolb with their first pick in last month’s NFL draft.”It was shocking,” McNabb said yesterday in an interview on WIP-AM radio.Speaking publicly for the first time since the draft on April 28-29, McNabb downplayed the perception he’s upset the Eagles selected his eventual successor. The five-time Pro Bowl quarterback also said his rehab is going well following surgery for a torn knee ligament and he expects to play in the pre-season.

“When you draft somebody at the position you’re in, of course you naturally have questions,” McNabb said.

“The most important thing for me is to make sure I’m healthy and 100% and get back out there competing and do the right thing on the field.”

McNabb met with coach Andy Reid soon after the draft, but wouldn’t reveal details of their conversation.

My Take: Watching the longest draft in fucking history, I’m on my last beer (Bud Light like my new idol Don Nelson ) and I realize that I need to send someone on a beer run. And here comes the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1st round to pick at 26 and they decide to trade down with the Cowboys (you trade with your division foe?) to the 2nd round 36th pick. So when the Eagles card comes to the podium I am expected them to take a DT or WR to help fill the hole of Stallworth leaving to the Patriots. But here it goes, they pick a QB, Kevin Kolb with their first pick of the day. A fucking QB and a system QB at that, a freaking QB from Houston! With all of the holes they needed to fill, you don’t take someone who can’t help you for a few years. I know McNabb has been hurt the last few years and they will need to get a QB soon, but not this year and this high.

Good job Eagles, you not only get rid of a very good proven QB in Jeff Garcia, but you allow the Cowboys to draft a pass rusher who will be on McNabb’s ass all season next year. Way to stab McNabb in the back. Next time, why don’t you give McNabb a chance to fully turn around before grabbing the butcher knife. Hey McNabb, why don’t you come out with me and my new bud ole Donny Nelson, he knows how to have a good time!
