The Miami Dolphins have formally begun negotiations with the agent for offensive tackle Jake Long in regards to making the former Michigan offensive tackle the No. 1 pick in the 2008 NFL draft later this month, SN correspondent Jeff Darlington reports for the Miami Herald.
The agent for Long, Tom Condon, had visited South Florida earlier this week on behalf of Long at request of the Dolphins. The Dolphins intend to have a contract in place with their first overall pick before the first day of the draft, April 26.
The Dolphins also remain interested in former Virginia defensive end Chris Long, but it is believed that the team has made no contact with his representation.
