Sean Taylor Dies

Washington Redskins defensive back Sean Taylor died Tuesday morning, a day after he was shot by an intruder at his home in Palmetto Bay, Florida. He was 24.

The one-time standout with the Miami Hurricanes died at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, where he was airlifted after the shooting Monday morning.

He never regained consciousness after the shooting, Sharpstein (his ex-lawyer) said. “It’s a senseless, tragic death that was so unnecessary, another example of the incessant violence in — not only our community — but the country now.â€

sean taylor shotASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor was in critical condition after he was shot at his Florida home Monday, police said.

Miami-Dade County police officers were dispatched to Taylor’s home at about 1:45 a.m. and found him shot. He was then airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital, police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said. He didn’t know where on Taylor’s body he was shot.

A brief statement from the Redskins said Taylor was undergoing treatment at the Miami hospital and that police were investigating. His family has asked that no information about his condition be released at this point, said hospital spokeswoman Lorraine Nelson.

Taylor has a home in the Miami suburb of Palmetto Bay that he bought for $900,000 two years ago.

Taylor, 24, is in his fourth season with the Redskins after playing at the University of Miami, where he was an All-American in 2003. He leads the team with five interceptions but has missed the last two games with a knee injury.

Devin Hester is the most feared kick returner in the history of the NFL.  He has broken records and continues on his tear by making coaches look stupid when they decide to kick to him.  But there is a guy, a guy who is a kicker, who knows how to tame this beast of a returner.  Josh Brown takes Hester down in the open field and gives him the business once he jumps up.

Ha, just kidding.  This was a lucky ass tackle with Hester coming out of traffic, but still funny anyway with Brown getting a chance to feel likea a real NFL player.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Los Angeles Lakers center Kwame Brown is out indefinitely with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee. He suffered the injury Sunday in a 106-78 win over Chicago.

The Lakers declined guess when Brown could return. The Times reported most NBA players are out two to four weeks with similar injuries, although it can be longer.

The extent of the injury was revealed in an MRI exam Monday, and Brown will be re-evaluated next week. With Brown out of the lineup, Chris Mihm and Andrew Bynum will get increased minutes.

Lil Romeo USCLOS ANGELES — Actor/rapper Lil’ Romeo is headed for Southern California to play basketball.

The teenage hip-hop performer and DeMar DeRozan, another local standout, signed national letters of intent to attend USC on Monday at a news conference held at a posh hotel near Beverly Hills.

USC confirmed the signings, and announced that Donte Smith, a 5-foot-11 guard who averaged 21.7 points at Mt. San Antonio College last season, had also signed.

Lil’ Romeo, whose full name is Percy Romeo Miller, is currently a senior guard at Beverly Hills High who averaged 13.9 points and 5.6 assists last season. His father, hip-hop mogul Master P, had tryouts with two NBA teams in the 1990s.

“This is the most important thing I’ve had to do and hopefully it sends a message to kids across the country that education is more important than money,” Miller said at the news conference. “Getting a college scholarship is more important than winning an American Music Award, and I plan to be the best student-athlete I can be at USC.”
One recruiting service ranks Miller, a 6-0, 170-pounder, among the top 15 prep point guards in the country.

RICHMOND, Va. - Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick surrendered to U.S. marshals Monday, three weeks before his sentencing on a dogfighting charge.

Vick is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 10 on the dogfighting conspiracy charge, but turned himself in because he was anticipating a prison term, according to a court document and a U.S. marshal.

Vick is being held at Northern Neck Regional Jail in Warsaw, a U.S. marshall told The Associated Press.

The order filed in U.S. District Court said “Vick has indicated his desire to voluntarily enter custody prior to his sentencing hearing. It appearing appropriate to do so, the U.S. Marshal is ordered to take custody of the Defendant immediately upon his surrender.â€

The order added that Vick was taken into custody “based solely on his desire to begin his period of incarceration prior to his sentencing hearing and not because of violation of any condition of his bond.â€

Mike TysonIf Lindsey Lohan gets on 84 min in jail for all of the shit she has been doing, I don’t have too much of a problem with Tyson getting this slap on the wrist.  He needs drug help than jail anyway.  I think that those who put others at risk by being under the influence should get a punishment that would help prevent this from happening again, but as long as our justice system continues to let our stars off easy, Im all for it.

Mike Tyson was sentenced Monday to 24 hours in jail and three years’ probation for drug possession and driving under the influence.

The former heavyweight champion had pleaded guilty in September to a single felony count of cocaine possession and a misdemeanor DUI count.

Tyson had faced a possible maximum sentence of four years and three months in prison. Prosecutor Shane Krausner had recommended one year in prison Monday, saying that Tyson was a multiple offender who previously had been convicted of violent crime and that only now has he sought treatment for his drug addiction.

Mississippi put 20 players on probation Sunday after they twice stole items from hotels.A news release said the players have paid for the items, which included radios and pillows. Ole Miss coach Ed Orgeron said in the release that the players will be on probation indefinitely.

Officials said the items stolen cost between $15 and $40.

“Any actions similar to this will result in more severe penalties which may include dismissal from the team,” Orgeron said in the release.

The action comes a day after the Rebels lost 41-24 to No. 1 LSU in Oxford. It appears the players will be allowed to play Friday at Mississippi State in the final game of the season.

A spokesman said a list of disciplined players was not available. Neither Orgeron nor athletic director Pete Boone immediately returned messages Sunday. Boone is scheduled to attend Orgeron’s weekly news conference Monday to answer questions about the disciplinary action.

It was not clear from the release when or where the items were stolen. Ole Miss stays in hotels for home and away games. When they play in Oxford, they stay at a hotel in nearby Tupelo on Friday nights to get away from distractions.
