Golden State Warrior Fan Robbed and Killed after their big victory over the Mavs
Written by Sports Dude on May 5, 2007 – 12:52 pmA San Francisco woman who worked at a concession stand at the Oracle Arena on Thursday night, when the Golden State Warriors beat the Dallas Mavericks, was shot and killed in a robbery in East Oakland on her way home, police said.
Quiana N. Smith, 23, was shot about 11:20 p.m. Thursday after dropping off a friend at an apartment complex on the 8600 block of Hillside Street, a dead-end road near the Youth Uprising Community Center and the Castlemont Community of Small Schools.
After robbing her as she sat in her car, the assailant shot her without provocation, said Oakland homicide Sgt. Dom Arotzarena. “There was no indication that she put up a fight,” he said.
Arotzarena said Smith was employed by the company that runs the concession stands at Oracle Arena, and she had worked Thursday night’s game in which the Warriors defeated Dallas to win a first-round NBA playoff series, authorities said.
The gunman escaped with an undisclosed amount of tip money that she had earned during the game, Arotzarena said.
In an unrelated killing just five blocks away, John Carr, 53, was found stabbed to death about 6:45 a.m. today on the sidewalk in front of a home on the 2200 block of 86th Avenue.
The two killings are the first in the city since April 20, when Damien Willow, 37, was found dead inside his burning car near 17th and Wood streets in West Oakland.
The slayings bring the number of homicides in Oakland so far this year to 32, compared to 47 at the same time last year.
